Home Decor on a Budget in a Tight Economy

Home is where the heart is, it is where you spend most of your time. Bare white walls, windows without blinds, and cluttered three dollar shelves are not going to make you want to be in your home. Organized, beautiful and welcoming home decor is within your budget and does not have to be expensive if you just know where to look even in this tight economy.

Remember not to leave out any small part of your home when you are decorating. You want to cover your home with beautiful and affordable home decor. This includes the living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms. You can even try having a small garden by your front door to liven up the place, and it is very inexpensive to do so. For example, Marigolds can be bought for pennies!

For living room, when you are buying furniture buy what will work with the space you have and your basic needs. Don’t worry about the top name brands in home furnishing, you can purchase a perfect sofa, bed frame, table and chairs, or a dresser at a thrift store for nearly nothing if you keep watching for when the new stuff arrives. Then you can buy some fabric on clearance and go to town redecorating your furniture to match your personal style. When you are finished no one will ever know how little you paid! To add more value to a furniture, you can add some luxury cabinet knobs and bail pulls. These decorative cabinet hardware is a cool way to add more value to any existing furniture drawers etc.

You can further brighten up a room with inexpensive curtains in vibrant colors and matching candles. Certain figurines and vases may also be extremely cheap if you look in the right places, like dollar stores. Grab some not-quite-wilting flowers from your local florist at a discount and toss them in a vase or urn with water and place them in the center of your dining table. Using oil lamps and glass candle holders can create a more peaceful ambiance as well.

Your kitchen does not have to be top of the line to be cheerful and functional. Repaint a rusty stove or refrigerator to bring new life to them. You can also brighten up your kitchen by putting in some nice, cheap curtains in bright pastel colors. Use the same fabric to make a little ruffle to run along the top of your cabinets for added color and hominess. Throw in some nice, colorful, really inexpensive rag rugs for in front of your stove and sink and you have it made. You can add some modern appliance pulls in steel or solid brass to enhance the look of your refrigerators.

As you can see, the only limitation is your mind. If you feel low on affordable home decor ideas, peruse your local thrift stores and garage sales. You never know what you might find and be able to turn into something beautiful for your home.
